Does anyone know what causes the image you see to blur when looking thru a portal? It looks just like like the image you see when looking under a map or thru caulk.

Okay, this is what it looks like. Looking through the portal in the window at an outdoor portal in Foy.

I had a problem like that before, but worse (it's on here somewhere) i sorted it by cleaning the fan on my g/card it was clogged up really bad works fine now, and i still play crap lol!

Thanks Phil, but it's not just my computer, everyone who checks out the map sees it. Let me add that this is a re-make of foy but all I've done so far is remove games other than base, and change anything that players can't see to caulk(there's lots). I didn't want to touch those portals, mostly because I don't have a clue how they work, but if I can't get past this I'm just going to forget about it. Visdata size started at 1,376,000 and I have it down to 1,254,000 but it's still too much.

I've managed to get the visdata file down a bit more
14138 active portals
902 hint portals
visdatasize:815688
0...1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8...9... (5)

But I'm still experiencing this problem. Is it related to, perhaps too many models or models that have been scaled to an excessive or just a different size?

xmodels shouldnt be adding data to vis.

If you have a big, complex object in the middle of your map try making it detail. It should trop down the number of cells vis makes, but could decrease fps a little if that building contains a lot of detail and models which would have been hidden if it was structural

This is Foy and I have tried to change as much as I could to detail. I haven't added anything, I've simply tried to clean it up a bit. The original foy has a visdata file of 1.3 million+ and over 16000 active portals. Just don't understand what is causing this blurring problem. Since my original post I've tried to redo all the portals with the same result.

do you mean full vis and not fast vis? I can't imagine it being that - data size will still be the same, it'll just take longer optimising the cells i believe

The portal in the window looks like it might have more than one face patined with portal, but I'm sure you've checked it, so I'm completely stumped. I suppose you could try removing that portal, then finding an inner door leading to that window and portalling that, so to keep the building sealed.

I with GMI didn't give us mp_foy to be honest lol - it's truely evil for modifying, and always the first map to give a max_gamestate error if you run reasonably complex mods

try the cull fog settings. put // in front of the cullfog settings in your gsc and see if it makes a difference.
