i've got the following problem in my other map.

when i try to compile i get the error "max cells exceeded"
i thought it was a leak or somethign so checked everything but cant see any, i checked my skybox wich is also in order, after that i removed all my lights in the map and tried again but the same error keep comming back, anyone knows what causes this problem? the map has no portals yet since i started not so long ago with it, for my feeling i really checked everything but still the same.

I got the same error first time I tried compiling. The problem is caused by using too many structural brushes (the default type of brush).

This tutorial (from the CoD mapping tutorials, but radiant hasn't changed much) explains how and when to use detail brushes:

your link doesnt work, beside i already made a map with no problems watsoever and also hardly used default type of brushes as u say it . building this map the same as my 1st one. it did also work before, i added some stuff and wanted to test again and then this error came.

well read it all but still dont see why i get this, i've already been in the map before, i only added couple of prefabs, nothing more.

Hmm... were these stock prefabs?

The stock prefab buildings contain structural brushes that could put you over the cell limit.

Some of the prefabs reference faulty/non-existent models, but that shouldn't give you a max cells exceeded error.

I think the avenger is correct - ive been making a massive map, compiled every time, worked every time. I then added some pallets ( com_pallet_stack ) and then although it compiled okay, it threw out the max cells exceeded once i tried to compile the reflections.

im gonna go and remove the crates then re-compile to see if it resolves the issue.

will post my answer here once done.

well, thats just not kool at all, i just removed all of those pallets ,re-compiled the map, then compiled the reflections, and, max cells exceeded popped up again.

On my previous compile ( b4 i put the pallets in ) everything was fine. I ran around in the map, everything worked. placed the pallets, removed the same pallets, and instead of the error disappearing, its back.

its a real pain because it takes 57 mins to compile the .bsp. I thought radiant 2 was slow but this one takes the biscuit.

back to the drawing board.
