When you put a soundalias in the FF it add the sound files pertaining to your map to the .FF. That's why if the file is missing from the sounds folder you get errors during your FF build.

Weapons cannot be in the IWD if you want the file to be accessable from the usermaps folder. If you read that post, yes the game CAN read weapons from an IWD, but not for maps. Only for mods.

Yes, the readme appears to be the only exception to these rules.

Its only adds them if they are wav's, as like I said, mp3's can't go in fastfiles [moon]

Custom images and custom sounds GO in the iwd. Everything that is custom go in the iwd.

Then what are map ff's for ;D

MP3's and IWI's in the iwd, everything else in the ff.
