in Radiant I saved my work and wanted to close the radiant, then my pc shuted down because of a problem with my graphics card driver(blue screen)
and now if I want to open my map, there appears a failure window:

FATAL ERROR: File F:\Call of Duty4 - Modern Warfare\map_source\mp_ailringen.map, line 5898: MatchToken: got", expected')'

GetLastError() = 3
An unrecoverable error has occured. Would you like to edit Preferences before exiting Q3Radiant?

If I click on YES then it opens the Preferences window

now my question:
can I open an older version of my map or can I repair it or is my work destroyed

Me too.Lost the entire map and had to start again .Luckily only happened once and sorry i dont have a solution as im only a beginner but what i do now just in case is save my map using 'save as' at different points usually after i made something new with a different name, so if the one im workin on does crash i can always go back to the one i saved a little while back.Hopefully someone here can help us out for future reference.

I was getting the same error after a power failure. These are the steps I used to recover my map.

1. Used TextPad, free trial available.
2. Go to COD4 map source folder and make a copy of it and rename it something else so you don't lose it.
3. Open your (mapname).map file with TextPad. Select view line numbers. Radiant marks the line number three higher then TextPad. Example, your error is "line 9746" so look at line 9743 in TextPad.
4. Edit that line with what the expected ")" is. Save and load map in the level editor. You may get another error. If so find the line and edit accordingly.

As with my map, when I edited the lines I ended up getting a cant find material error. I ended up deleting the entity and all associated brushes until my map was recovered. I had 57,000 lines in my .map file.

This is what you would select to remove a problem brush
