I'm just starting maping, and i dont really know if im doing this right. I cant seem to find any tutorials on how to do any basic stuff, like skyboxes, hills, and other essential stuff.

Here is the link for the bigger pic if you cant see it.

The "find-search" button at the top is real handy. Just search by a keyword and usually you'll find more than you want to read on virtually any topic. If you're new to Radiant, like me, I suggest going to the Radiant Basics section under the COD Mapping section on the left under tutorials. You'll find lots of good basic stuff there.

A skybox, is exactly that, just a large 'box' with a sky texture on the inside faces..

The skybox must be sealed (no gaps) and have nothing outside it..

Its good practise to mitre he corners, and only texture the inside faces though you will most of the time get away without doing this (not an excuse to no do it though [thumbs_up])

I have been doing the skyboxes the way the tutorial says ie texturing the inside of the box. But today I was looking at Backlot and noticed that they have the entire brush textured with the sky. What are the advantages/disadvantages of doing it the way they have it? Just curious since I noticed it.

Malonen, do the skyboxes with only the inside faces textured. What you see in backlot is 6 walls thrown up so the map could be compiled for us to use. The corners are not mitered and they are real thick.
The beveled edges are for no potential leaks....

it doesnt matter how thick or thin the sky box brushes are

doesnt matter if all the brush is textured with a sky, i think they do that so projectiles go through the sky box instead of hitting and exploding on it (like it does in places if you have all but inside caulked)

i think making beveled edges just takes more time
