So I reinstalled XP because Vista was getting me nowhere with map tools. Well now on XP I am getting less than 15 frames a second ingame. On the main menus I can barely navigate the mouse cursor as it skips all over the place. It is practically unusable. And on top of that, I can't join any server because apparently my ping is too high. Even on a local server, despite HLSW saying my ping is 50. Game run with no problems at all on Vista.

The weird thing is I have been playing Crysis with no hassle at all. Framerate is definatly better in XP and I have 0 problems at all. Same goes for Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, no problems at all. It is just CoD4. Sync every frame is off, and forced to be off for every 3D application.

I am guessing it has got to be with a graphical setting in the nVidia control panel but it doesn't explain why it's just this game and why I cannot join any multiplayer servers.

My rig is more than capable of playing the game and if it runs Crysis good, then there is really no excuse.

Ok this seemed to fix itself by restarting the computer. But I tried it just a minute ago and it run really slowly again, even typing letters in console had at least 1-2 second delay. I am using the absolute newest drivers for my hardware.

the latest drivers are not always the best ;)

i can't update my sounddriver, setup lets my computer reboot, after installing in safemode bluescreen everytime when booting. so i returned to previous version of the driver and all works fine.

use "optimal system settings" option from cod4 options menu and try it on this settings again. if nothing changes for the better, set everything manually. especially vsync and sli off. try to turn off feature by feature / turn it down and try it again on all settings.

rename the cod4 executabe. nVidia driver shouldn't apply specific settings to cod4 from now on.

low performace (frames per second) = higher ping
