i think it is the d3dbsp. file that causes it.

[eek]

Well dang. This isn't too encouraging. I saw this thread the other day and didn't give it much thought until it happened to my son's map today. He's doing a bunch of prefabs on his map and he just recompiled and asked me to watch him run thru it. The first thing he noticed in the level testing run was his stairs were missing . Then he turns the corner around a building and said " Dad, where's my building!!??" I hope my map isn't destined to do the same thing. I plan to subscribe to this one.

happy mapping [wave]

I have had this problem as well,

what happens if you compile your map, run it and it works fine, then you add something, if you notice in the DOS screen you might see an error, and it's stoping from updating your .ff file

and when you think it's done it's just running your last version before your new additions

what i did to fix this is everytime i make a major change I will change the name of the map to mp_mapename_v1, then v2, then v3 ect

if your latest version does not work, then you know it's something you added.

I made a small working mp skybox that I test my prefabs and other items that cause problems so I dont have to sit and wait through 30-45 mins of compiling to see it dont work

good luck !

the error usually shows in that black box that pops up when hit compile. right click on it and select all when it is nearly finished then paste into a document file so you can study it easily. many times it's because something is poking through your skybox.

Are you guys just compiling your map and trying to run them? Do you go through ALL of the steps down the line? When you click on the zone file update, do you see any new things on the left side? If you do, have you copied and pasted over to the right side?(that's if you can get it to work).

Common problem actually, theres no guaranteed way to fix it, but you can VERY often fix it by doing what sleep61 said.

When you hit 1. Compile BSP, let it finish to the point where it says "Press Any Key To Continue". Right click--> Select All ---> [Enter]

Then make a new notepad file, and paste it there (cntrl+v).

It's somewhat confusing to look through all that info, but what your looking for is an error that looks something like this:

File Handles:

error on brush 36, entity 0, blah blah blah

Which means that the brush needs to be fixed or deleted. To find it, go to the Radiant editor, go misc--->find brush and put in the brush number in the error. Usually you'll see whats wrong immediately (the brush is invisible [no size/shape], sticking through the wall, using a bad texture, etc etc)

and/or ****LEAKED****

Which means you have light escaping into 'space'. Meaning your skybox isn't perfect, has a hole, etc. Somewhere there is light that is 'leaking' out into oblivion.

To find leaks, go to the Radiant editor, File--->Pointfile, then follow the red line. Sometimes the cracks are hard to spot so check the 2D view as well.

Note: the pointfile will often generate a red line even if there is no leak, so don't use it as an indicator if you have a leak or not, use the BSP Compile log for that.

Hope that fixes your problem
