I found that the open console and loading the game does not sufficiently test it if you are wanting to load it to a server and play it. I was always able to test them fine when loading through console but as soon as I loaded to a server it crashed the server. The best way to test the maps to be used on a server is to put the .ff files and the .iwd file in appropriate folders and make a new icon on your deskstop for multiplayer and add in the infomation to start up a dedicated server. Type map mapname in the console line. Once you start the dedicated server start a multiplayer session and open the console at the mainscreen and type "connect yourip". This will simulate loading the game on a server.

Im interested in trying this, can you clarify " and add in the infomation to start up a dedicated server " I take it that you mean to create a shortcut to COD4 Multiplayer....But thats where I get lost....what do you need to do to make a dedicated server?
Thanks,

You have to edit some of the properties in the shortcut. I will post up what to do when I get home from work tonight.

On your desktop icon I have this as my target. Yours will change a little depeding on where you have the game loaded.

"I:\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\iw3mp.exe" +set dedicated 2 +set sv_punkbuster 1 +set fs_game mods/modwarfare +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

Once I have it up and running you will have a console typing spot. Type in map yourmapname to rotate it to your map. Then open another multiplayer and open the console and type connect yourip. This is how I test my maps. You will need your .ff files in usermaps\mapname folder and if you have an .iwd it will need to be in the Mods\modwarfare folder.
