you dont want to use the xmodel's
select misc prefabs then go to

Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\map_source\prefabs\misc_models

and in there are most of the xmodels with the cliping done for you
EASY

hope that help

hi. been having some problems with prefabs the last couple of days too.

I’ve been searching the forums, and it seems that using prefabs is not as simple as models.

when I add a model it works just fine, it turns the red box in too the model, in my chase a chair. But when I launch the map i can walk right through it. And that is because I used model instead of prefab. That much I figured by reading this forum and tutorials (great site btw :)).

Ok, so when I’m trying the "right click > misc > prefab" and type the same model name as when i made the model earlier "com_office_chair_black" in the value box and "misc_prefab". Nothing happens (I’ve tried just typing prefab instead of misc_prefab, I had to type model instead of misc_model when i made the model to make it work). The red box just stays the same, and doesn't turn in to a chair.

I don't know if it supposed to turn in to the chair when it’s a prefab, but kind of hope so, so I can see when I’m doing something right :P.

As said I’ve been searching the forums found this.

Hi all
i had the same prob
what you need to do is go into the raw file and in there you need to make a new folder and call it raw then you need to copy and paste the shader_bin which is in the raw folder and paste it in the new raw folder

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\raw\raw\shader_bin

And that should sort you out with the models

Now for the prefabs
Now you need to make a copy of the same raw folder with the shader_bin in it so you have a folder called raw with shader_bin in it
Then you need to paste it in the prefab folder which is in the map_source

C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\map_source\prefabs

Right now for the boring bit
you have to copy and paste that raw folder with the shader_bin in it to every folder in the prefabs folder if you open a couple of folders eg aftermath and ammo_pickups you will see that the contents are differant
AFTERMATH has other folders inside and AMMO_PICKUPS dont
so you need to open 1 at a time every folder in the prefabs folder but not whats inside them
So you open aftermath and paste the raw folder with the shader_bin into it
But when you open the ammo_pickups theres no need to paste the raw folder there as there are no other folders inside it

Is that really necessary, it seems awfully complicated. So I was kinda hoping there is an easier way.

I’ve also read about clip boxes, but it seems stupid when they already are made and just needed to be imported right :)

I’ve tried opening the “com_office_chair_black.map” and I can see chair and the clip boxes around it, so it should be a prefab, (as I understand not all models are prefabs).

Sorry this post got kind of complicated, but tried to specify my problem the best way I could.

Summery: how to make a prefab.

And yes, this is my first time using radiant hehe :P

I use the models without any trouble
Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 4 - Modern Warfare\xmodel

"right click > misc >model"

There was a patch for the Mod tools I believe it was supposed to fix this problem, however, yes you have to copy the shader_bin all around if the problems persists. My shader_bin directory is still copied all over the place.

Prefabs are just as easy as models. Not sure what your problem is. Also, xmodel and prefabs are in different directories. You will have to search for the chair, there doesn't appear to be any way of searching for the chair that I know of.
