ok make your texture in Photoshop (this is what I do). Make sure it is a square (maximum size I've made is 512x512 which should be enough). Ok now go to save as. select DDS (if it is not available go download the DDS plugin from the Nvidia website or wherever). Now click save and the DDS options window pops up. Select Generate MIP maps (on the right) and DXT RGB [No Alpha] on the left. Save it as MyTexture.dds in you Main/textures/mymap folder. To make the texture behave like a certain material have a look at the different shadertypes in pak4.pk3 (the world subfolder has most of them). If you want to make the texture behave like asphalt, rename it from MyTexture.dds to Asphalt@MyTexture.dds - You can use any of the shadertypes you see there - or make your own. I made my own shadertype to make my texture behave like water (some of you may remember me begging for help...). hope this helped.
