there's probably an easy explanation to this, but when I shift-click on a single brush in the mp_backlot.map it selects every brush in the level. The test maps don't have this problem. What am I doing wrong with the backlot map?

You're probably selecting a huge brush in the map. Try to zoom in very closely and try again.

thanks for the quick reply, but I've zoomed all the way in the 3D window and when I click on one brush the whole level selects (turns red) in the grid.

Happens to me too... basically.. the whole map is one big prefab. Select itm abd go to Edit->Enter PRefab.

open up backlot_geo

its broken up into individual prefabs + brushes and the usual stuff

On that note, is A) possible to make the entire map a single prefab and B) is it beneficial to do so?

backlot_geo is one giant prefab.

and yes it is very benficial to make your geometry (geo) one giant prefab.
this way you can create a new map, load your geo as a misc_prefab, then add your MP gametypes or SP gameplay on top of it without accidently messing up the hard work youve put into your level's geometry.

while you are adding things on top of the geo prefab, and you see something in the geo you may need to adjust to accomodate the gameplay, you can select the geo prefab with shift+left click, right click and choose prefab - enter prefab. then you can quickly make the changes, save the geo prefab, then right click in the 2D window and choose Prefab - Leave Prefab; then go back to working on your gameplay.
