My belief is that for the most part the new tools blow.
I know how to map with the old radiant tools so Im not a complete beginner to this.
Basic things like try to make and bend a square cylinder to create a very simple archway is impossible.
Take a look at this image from the release candidate version and then check your Textures - Locale..........
See anything different?
You want to continue to put /raw/shader_bin in every damn folder that you think needs it and then only have some of the images show up?
I can go on and on but there is no need.
This release was rushed to make us happy. Are any of you really truly happy with what we got? |

Hey Ray,
I completely agree with you, I was fully up to speed with Rad2 and now feels like I'm back to basics having to read all the threads in the forums at I.W to see where I'm going wrong.
I believe like you guys that the tools were rushed because the community were non stop hassling I.W - "When are the tools out" - "this is a joke" etc etc etc. I would rather have waited for another couple of months if needed to make sure we got fully working tools.
One other thing to mention, the PReview image for models and Prefabs - that's not working either, I've sent a PM to Mad Massey at I.W on this subject.
Very dissapointing I.W, great game, great future, great patching idea, all lte down by rushing the tools.
If I were I.W I would seriously be looking at sorting the tools out over the next couple of patches.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you.
You can't expect it to be perfect the first public release, hence, patches. Maybe the beta testers didn't have that shader problem, because they didn't get exactly the same version as us until it was released. It's a developer's tool, developers are meant to have some idea of what they're doing, they are meant to have initiative.
I'm happy with what we got, there's so much new stuff to play with, it makes up for the hundreds of threads and messages from people who have no idea what's going on. IW have done a great job making it easier for people this time; a relatively straight-forward 5 step system for creating simple maps (although there are still plenty of people who somehow miss those).
I don't think it was rushed at all, they released exactly what they intended to as with Cod4 itself; sure, it has it's bugs, but what doesn't. As for a learning curve, how easy can mapping applications actually be, without becoming 'click here and here and you're done' systems?
