My belief is that for the most part the new tools blow.

I know how to map with the old radiant tools so Im not a complete beginner to this.

Basic things like try to make and bend a square cylinder to create a very simple archway is impossible.

Take a look at this image from the release candidate version and then check your Textures - Locale..........

See anything different?

You want to continue to put /raw/shader_bin in every damn folder that you think needs it and then only have some of the images show up?

I can go on and on but there is no need.

This release was rushed to make us happy. Are any of you really truly happy with what we got?

Well neither do I. That image is from the release candidate.

That and pathways that dont work, the shader_bin issues and everything else that you can read about in any number of threads here and elsewhere tell the truth that these tools are flawed.

I can see there being a learning curve to any new version of the tools but do we have to find ways to cheat the program to work? I thought that was what the "BETA TESTERS" were suppose to do.

How can we normal people find so much wrong with this product in just a matter of hours or days and the testers and developers have had much more time.

I still say we have been taken.....thank God they dont charge for this ?product?

OKAY HERE IS MY H0NEST OPINION

i think the tools are fine i make archways no problem i manipulate vertise no problem i am mapping no problem. you dont have to copy the shader to every folder just pop the map in your map souce folder open it copy n paste it into ur map...

BUT my question is this !!!

why didnt the beta testers find all these bugs ?? did they even bother to report back or was (some) of them way way too busy trying to get their map out first before anyone else. or was they mapping hard so they can fetch the first best map out ???

i expected to see a lot more tutorials by now made by the testers and not by mainly public people who have only had the tools a couple of days.

this post is not aimed at anyoen at all i just at a loss as to what the beta testers were actually doing ?? were they all kids or just greedy people ?

Hey Ray,

I completely agree with you, I was fully up to speed with Rad2 and now feels like I'm back to basics having to read all the threads in the forums at I.W to see where I'm going wrong.

I believe like you guys that the tools were rushed because the community were non stop hassling I.W - "When are the tools out" - "this is a joke" etc etc etc. I would rather have waited for another couple of months if needed to make sure we got fully working tools.

One other thing to mention, the PReview image for models and Prefabs - that's not working either, I've sent a PM to Mad Massey at I.W on this subject.

Very dissapointing I.W, great game, great future, great patching idea, all lte down by rushing the tools.

If I were I.W I would seriously be looking at sorting the tools out over the next couple of patches.

I'm afraid I have to disagree with you.

You can't expect it to be perfect the first public release, hence, patches. Maybe the beta testers didn't have that shader problem, because they didn't get exactly the same version as us until it was released. It's a developer's tool, developers are meant to have some idea of what they're doing, they are meant to have initiative.

I'm happy with what we got, there's so much new stuff to play with, it makes up for the hundreds of threads and messages from people who have no idea what's going on. IW have done a great job making it easier for people this time; a relatively straight-forward 5 step system for creating simple maps (although there are still plenty of people who somehow miss those).

I don't think it was rushed at all, they released exactly what they intended to as with Cod4 itself; sure, it has it's bugs, but what doesn't. As for a learning curve, how easy can mapping applications actually be, without becoming 'click here and here and you're done' systems?

If afraid I agree with november, seeing as this is the first public release, I'm sure that its not the last and that they will fix their errors in time, and even if they were rushed to make us happy, that's something they succeeded in doing [biggrin]

I will agree with you November that for the most part the tools are workable but.....

As I recall radiant for cod2 took longer to be released but they really did not have any real problems to be sorted out. They worked. Even with the learning curve difference from Graydiant.

We did get lots of new innovations with this release and that is, imho, where the problems started.

It just seems to me that none of the beta testers or developers used their own machine, Im sure they did, but just look at what we have had to figure out on our own.

I hope that mapping never becomes click and voila. That will remove too much of the originality that we see now. Let Crysis mappers do that but not us.

one thing i know is this: i never noticed destructables in the game at all.... but they seem awesome , although rather buggy.

i mapped for wolfET, and used destructables all over the place for that game! now i get to use em again HOORAH!!

the tools are really buggy ... but i LOVE all the new features.
im glad they are out now and not months from now.

heck, i finished a map!
the thing i really hate about this is ... fast file? wtf?!?! im confused

A view bugs in the tools, but the new features they added are worth it.
