Hope this is the right forum. Anyway, is it just me or is it the game? I have COD4 brand new and is obviously version 1.0. There is no SP only MP, what is wrong, anybody know? Most of the IWD files are sound files. Do I need to patch it to get SP or what? Thanx.

ummm yes u need to patch ur cod to at lease play on line also u should have SP and MP

Cod is both SP and MP from the box, no need to patch anything. There should be an SP shortcut too.. if there isn't open CoD2MP and in the menu click on Single Player.
Or browse to your CoD4 install folder and click on iw3sp.exe, that's the SP .exe file.

The IWD files only have some sounds, skins, and wep files in them, the rest of the stuff is stored in fast files.

If I didnt phrase my question correctly I am sorry. I have the SP shortcut. I clicked on it and nothing happened. MP works but not SP. (MP lags real bad) It just does nothing. It shows a pic really fast and disappear. I try opening it from the folder and it doesnt work as well. What's the problem?

128MB of memory

That's all I know for my PC Spec.

Few things i can think of to try:

1) Close all running programs you don't need (MSN, Browsers, etc..) Then try right-click the CODMWSP.exe and select open (play, launch, whatever option you have to lauch)

2) Reinstall the latest patch, restart computer then try to start game again.

3) Make sure you have NO mods in your cod4 folder

4) Update your versions of DirectX, .Net and graphics drivers to the latest version.

5)Try all launch options, by this i mean desktop shortcut, start menu shortcut and folder .exe.

If all else fails reinstall the game.

Thanx. The only mod or maybe a mod I have is the COD 4 bots for MP. I got it from this site (modsonline). Is that the problem? I dont think so b/c it's only MP. So I install the 4.1 patch? My DirectX is 9.0 so I guess I am ok. .NET? What is that, is that net framework or something? My drivers are all up to date. If all fails, I reinstall the game? Do I need to patch 4.1 afterwards?

Yes .net is the framework 'thing' you can get it of microsoft.com. When/if you uninstall the game make sure you delete the cod4 folder from your program files and ONLY IF you feel confident remove all registry keys for the game BEFORE you reinstall it. You will need to patch it again.

huh? I have ATI also, but I (think I) have 6800. that could be what causing your lag... I don't know what I'm talking about, all I know is I have the best card I can get with my single processer on Windows.

I'd say reinstall completely. Also, make sure you have no other programs running while you are installing, I've been told that can cause issues on games - rarely...

Yeah, it works, I just updated the game to 1.4 without any reinstalling. SP works now, however SP lags like CRAZY! The smallest MP map, "shipment" doesnt lag, I havent tried the big maps yet, but I am sure, they will lag like crazy too. Is there a way to fix this? I run everything in safe mode and on the lowest graphic but it still doesnt work either, except that small MP map. I put my video card on optimal performance, not quality and it still doesnt work. It's worse than the balance setting and the game in safe mode + lowest graphic setting. I know getting a new video card will do, but I dont have the money, there must be an alternative to this. side note: WTF Captain Price is like in all four games and is still alive in the forth one and still old, how is that possible? He is old in WWII, how is he still old in modern days?
