I got my hands on the November issue of PC Gamer today, first thing I read was the article on Quake4.

I can honestly say, Raven really improved!
Quake4 looks so sexy, omg.. I could have lost a but on the mag! (no pun intended)

The screns looked so good, you have no idea untill you see them. Quake... veheicle support (so far it's only for SP), AI teammates through most of the game... it's looks brilliant.

Even though Raven (like always) focused more on the SP side of it, since it is a sequel to Q2.. I do think this will be a good game.

Any body else get the magazine?

Is Q4 going to have bots like Q3? The bots in Q3 have been my longtime friends (since my internet playing is in the toilet due to antiquated internet connections). If it is like Q3 but more advanced it will be a sure buy for me.
I remember when Q3 hit the shelves, there were like 3 or 4 thousand servers running. Been a while since I ever heard of that. hehe
Can't wait either to take a look at it.

I read it the second day I had it... and I think you missed some important aspects of the article. Things that would not make you so fond of Raven... again.

- Quake 4 is based on the Doom 3 engine. This means that it will be very similar in looks and gameplay... but certainly not the same.

- the game will focus on single player and not multiplayer. It will pick up where quake 2 left off. Raven wants to make this game story driven because there are enough multiplayer games out there already.

- while they expect to have multiplayer ready for the game's release, they have not really done any significant work on the multiplayer aspect of the game. They are concentrating on the single player element.

... right about now I said.... Here is the same bull we heard about SoF 2.

- the single player game will take place on Mars also like Doom 3. The difference will be that the game will be more action packed and you will feel more like you are part of a team rather then alone.

I am pretty disappointed to hear these things. At least it's VERY early in the development. They have at least a year (even though they say less time) to get it all together into a new game and not just a mod of Doom 3.

Well, in the article, they mentioned that Raven is still working on the SP side.... spent most of the time polishing the maps (evidently they did, sicne they look amazing!) .....but, I'm sure it'll have a decent MP side of it...

I just hope it has better modding capabilites.. OOO! RETURN OF THE GRAFLING HOOK! ..lol, that would pwn.

Well, I'm a good quake fan, so you have to take that into context... but yeah, it is Raven.

Bah... I dunno, there are good aspects and bad aspects.. but I'll be not so surprised if the MP isn't as good as I hope it will be...

SoF2 MP sucked hard... I duno...

I am not a fan of team games. Never have been. Q3 Arena and UT are just awesome SP games (of course you had the dm, ctf, etc, even in SP mode). No running around trying to figure out what to do next, no tricks. Just run around and try to stay alive long enough to take the bots out. Played both mainly in Nightmare and Godlike modes.
If Q4 follows a different path it may not go over very good.
Even UT2003 and 04 didn't hold my interest like the originals.

on the plus side, q2 was the best selling quake game ever. This is probably why they chose this path. However, we also must remember that this was when modding became a fad and quake2 was the game to mod because of the awesome support it had.

It's just too early to make any solid decisions on what will come.

I did play Q2, but never got into the modding part of it or MP side of it. It never held my interest like Q3 or UT. I still play both of these and never even thought of trying to load up Q2.

And yes, we will have to wait and see. Maybe they will give us everything we want in a game. (red isn't holding his breath). hehe
