You can turn the FPS thingy on by typing

/set cg_drawFPS 1

in your console.

/set cg_drawFPS 0

to turn it off.

Why would you want to go any higher than the stock limit..
your monitor will only display up to its max refresh rate which is usually 60-80Hz..

I think the fastest stuff will only display 120Hz
so you will only get 120 fps... no matter what your fps counter is saying... that is all the screen/card is capable of displaying....

Hi def 1280p is recorded 60 fps..
nearly all commercial films are recorded/played at 24fps..

why would u need more?

Because {fps} <> {screen refresh frequency}. You are comparing apples and oranges.

FPS has more to do with raw graphical processing power and whatever bottlenecks exist in your PC's various systems between the CPU, RAM, and Graphics card CPU and RAM. While screen refresh rate is a frequency set in your graphics card and (hopefully) selected at a rate that your monitor's hardware is designed for.

Example, I can get 333 fps in COD quite easily, while my screen refresh rate is set to 60 Hz. As long as you do not have "Sync Every Frame" turned on or set to "yes", then there is no 1 to 1 correlation between these two very different topics.

Accouring to this article you can get about 2 FPS on a 6800 128 Mb with the setting put to minimal.. so a 256 should get a bit more...
As sgtBilko already explained it;s not just the card, it's the rest of the computer too... and since your specs are a bit better than the 25 FPS pc used in that article, my guess is the game should be playable on your system. It won't look smashing, because you'll have to turn everything off and run in a low reslution, but it will be playable.
