hi, im trying to portal a large section of my map which is not visible from an upper section of the map. i created a box with portal no draw and covered the outside with portal texture i then stretched the box over my map section and used the hollow function. i then pulled the overlapping bits to meet at right angles. everythings looks good in radiant but when i compile i get lots of overlapping portal errors. is overlapping portal errors a big deal or can i ignore them?

Best way to do portals are one at a time, making a box and hollowing them out with give you countless errors, start with all buildings inside's and then try to split up the outside using your buildings and structual brushes to make portal cells or think of them as little sky box's as best you can.Use your lin file to find any leaks,you have to move lin file to same folder that your autosave is in for lin file to work and find the leak or problem.

What is wrong here?

Sometimes Overlapping errors or T-Junktion errors:

I made 4 Big Portal Cells, started the first cell with Portal-Nodraw inside, made all Outsides Common Portal,Covered it with a Portal-Nodraw Brush give it outside Common Portal.(Just Click on the Pics and you see a bigger version then)

Next I add a Brush on the Side and made the Outside Common Portal (here down) Inside staed Portal-Nodraw:

Then I coverd it like the First one.

Next Step was another Wall, The Arrow shows the Portal-Nodraw.

Now a Picture where I already know that must be wrong, but how
is it right?


I searched for Tutorials but the one here from the German Guy got not so good Pictures and maybe I am a bit Dumb??
So if you can help me or give me a Tutorial that was made for
outside Portals or send me a little Portal-File so I can watch and
learn, I would be a very happy Guy.

well the pictures didn't help me much. If i could see the .map file then it could be easier... PM me or something if you would like to send me the .map.
nullFew tips for coding.
1. Keep the script as short as possible.
2. Don't comment every line. Only comment portions where they may be needed to point something out.
3. Don't over complicate the script, keep it organized and easy to read.

These help you find simple errors and makes it easy to make changes.
