I did not fully understand the first part. but I managed compile the map by removing the following ' -basedir "Call of Duty" '. The maps looks odd tough. the sky texture is like small blue boxes (training texture i think) And no shadows I think, not sure. Anyhow, I still cant start radiant because that new mysterious error message what i told about in my last post. damn.

No, lights are not working right. Its all bright whit no shadows or nothing. And the compile prosess takes too little time in my opinion.

I dont think i had this one in my previous compiles (before i removed that one part you advised me to remove from the compile comands. After that i have been able to compile and test my map.)

yo ganja,

don't worry about this simplifying thing and this merging messages. this doen't seem to produce any problems. the second part with visportal 1..2..3.. and so on is a good sign. so your first visual data will be calculated. this is a must have for proper shadows and correct lights.

but you still get this "No lights" message in the end of your compile run. let me ask one thing. do you have any worldspawn settings entered for your map? not? so please search for "worldspawn settings" in this forum. you need worldspawn settings to get correct lights at all.

Thanks for the info on merging ect. I do have worldspawn settings as in mp_carentan. I think i did it exactly as shown in the tutorial. Highlighting only the inner surfaces of the skybox and the i pressed "N" and added the keys and values as shown in the "offissial worldspawn settings" page. But thanks again and good night.

good morning ganja,

i'm unsure if this has something to do with your problem, but you said you first selected all inner skybox walls and then you added worldspawn settings. hmmm, i never selected any brush oder surface before i added worldspawns. why not opening your map file with notepad and have a look at the very first lines? i really can't imagine what's going on in your map by now. when opening your map file with notepad you should read something like this:

These lines are minimum requirements for proper lights.

Yeah Baby, YEAH! I think its gonna work right after this compile (its taking forever, I think that is a good sign). Jep, after 13min compile its working just fine. Thanks again Skywalker, youve been a great help.
I didnt realise that one can edit the map trough notepad or alike. I did try things last night and ended up whit fast compile and when I tryed to run my map it said something like "first entity is not worldspawn" Anyhow I looked at the map file and there was missing the first line `"classname" "worldspawn"´ I have a feeling thats important.... heheh

Because the compile prosess takes forever i wonderd if I can compile my map for testing whitout the vis?

hi ganja,
glad that i could help (again :D ). according to your last compiler question you should try the following lines:

q3map.exe -basedir "Call of Duty" ..\..\main\maps\riva
q3map.exe -vis -fast ..\..\main\maps\riva
flare.exe -verbose -fast -sundiffusesamples 2 ..\..\main\maps\riva
pause


these switches will create a "quick'n dirty" bsp for testing purposes.

have a look at c:\program files\call of duty\tools\docs\compiling maps.htm for detailed descriptions about switches and parameters of q3map.exe and flare.exe.
