Hey Everyone

Anyone have any idea how to fix this error?
"Disk Boot Failure, insert system disk and press enter"
I keep getting this every time I start the pc. Its running on xp

Just though I would ask before I go and do something silly and reformat the hard drive

Sounds like the system is unable to boot from your hard drive.
I would just replace the hard drive.

if you recently moved the pc, recheck the internal connections.

turn on the pc and hit del to get to the bios. then check to see if your computer recognizes the hard drive. It should be listed in available boot devices. If not, it's dead. If so, then perhaps just windows is screwed.

Again... just get a new hard drive. Install this as a second drive. Check to see if you can see any files on the drive. Scan it with anti-virus software. Then grab whatever files you didn't want to lose.

For some reason the drive failed. You don't want it failing again on you in the future.

Neither of my hard drives are showing up in the bios, which makes me think that it’s a connecter/power cable that has broke rather than a dead hdd.

I have tried to repair windows but it keeps telling me that there are no hdd's installed on my pc. I have also been into bios and did an auto check on my hard drives and nothing was found. I mean what are the chances of two hard drives dieing at the same time.

However I have been looking for an excuse to go all out and get new graphics card, motherboard....... etc. So I think I’ll just get a new one then install my current master one in the slave slot and do what you said and take what I need off there, then bin it

Oh.. 2 hard drives not showing? Yeah, that sounds like a power/motherboard issue. The power issue could be the PSU or the motherboard. If you have a DVD/CD drive and that works, then try switching the power lines. At least you could reduce the likelihood that this is a PSU issue. PSUs burn out all the time.

Yeah the DVD, CDRW and floppy (not that I use floppy) are all working fine so, I think you might be on to something with the PSU/ PSU cables. It starts up fine power wise. I’ll go swap some cables around and see if I can get the master hard drive to work at least

Thanks [thumbs_up]

Well foyleman..........YOUR A GENIUS lol

I swapped the PSU cable that was in my CDRW drive with the master hard drive cable. And she started up fine, a bit slow, but fine.

So I can't use my cd re-writer for a few days, until my new PSU comes but hey at least I can use the PC

[jumping]

Thank's for your help foyleman, once again your a genius

[thumbs_up]
