With all the hype about how "great" COD 4 is supposed to be....I feel kind of weird about being being disappointed with it. I beat the SP on normal in about five hours, where as it took me about two days to play through COD 2......why was it so short? Maybe if there were more than just a few locations it would've seemed longer. I started getting really tired of playing the Azerbaijan levels, because they all looked the same - white fences, rolling hills, dilapidated houses. Kinda monotonous. The same foggy, gray atmosphere. Every time I thought I was heading to the jungle, or the city, it was just more of the same.

The middle east levels were nothing short of awesome though.....I just wish there were more "war" levels. Thats why the other CODs are so great. I would easily sacrifice a "story" for just plain "action". I liked the news reel movie feel, but playing though historical battles/conflicts is much more fun. Especially when they become more and more chaotic. Can't wait for Radiant so I can remedy this.

I don't have high speed internet, so i don't play online - my main focus is SP level building - so hopefully the tools won't suck.

Overall it was a surprise - especially the graphics and motion capturing. The replay value is great - I've played the "Charlie Don't Surf" (Apocalypse Now) level many times already. Many weapons, nice effects, and a few interesting environments. Also glad it's finally rated M. Way, way, way too short though....and hopefully for COD 5 they'll bring back the "war" feel and do away with the "cold" part.

But thanks for the hard work IW!!!

Play it on Veteran if you think it's too short.
Especially the War Pig mission, that's probably the one level where you get to see the hard work IW did for gameplay.

Yeah, I have it on ps3
It took me about 5 hours to complete SP on normal
To be fair, I haven't tried it on veteran yet
Awesome game, it is just way to short.
However the multiplayer is awesome, so I find that kind of balances it all out

I haven't played the single player games in any of the CoD series, except to look at the tank missions in cod1 and uo. From what I've read of the plot and dialogue from CoD4 though, it seems to much to me like one of Tom Clancy's worst novels. Probably as bad as Rainbow Six...

I can't even get through the first two levels on veteran. Just don't have the patience. Ha!

I certainly noticed the work that went into the game - but I still think they could've saved themselves some time and dropped the Clancy story.

I also noticed kind of an underlying scathing tone to the game - almost hinting at how disgruntled the planet is now. How ruthless combat can be. Especially the gunship level. Kinda made me feel uneasy hearing the "I see little pieces down there" when you're blowing people apart. That's just me though. I've never felt that while playing a game. That's realism for you. War ain't pretty.

I also finished the game in the first two levels in about five to six hours. Too short, definitely. Too many scripted events where you can do nothing.[banghead]

Why have the part with the nuke when you are not going to survive anyway? What was the point of rescuing the gunship pilot, only to see her fly out of the end of the chopper after the nuke goes off?

It seems the only way the game makes it more difficult is to just send a mass of people at you from all directions at once. There is no finesse or strategy, you just follow the path. Endless streams of terrorists is just a "too cheap" way of making it harder. In reality there would be a limited number, a finite number, not an endless stream only stopped by standing in the right position. Especially inside a building.

I started it at a higher level and found it much more difficult, but no real reason to play it on the higher level. Very little if any control in sniper mission that is a flash back for the Captain. [sad]

Very good graphics. [thumbs_up] Halfway decent story line, but too short and not much that is variable. Scripted events cannot be stopped. Endless flow of enemy soldiers.

Weapons and night vision are good. [biggrin]

Team members act MUCH better than in COD2 and previous versions, they actually will shoot at enemy. You are not obligated to ALWAYS be the one to take a position.

As for previous comment about crew member's comments when firing guns from airplane, yes, I can see that happening, been there, heard it before. Yes, war is terrible. It is real easy to be casual about someone else's death when you are several hundred feet above them in an airplane.

I noticed that too and I applaud IW for trying to bring that out in the game.

Can anyone here or anywhere for that matter say that this world of ours is peaceful and tranquil? I think not. There is indeed many lifetimes of beautiful places in this world but that is not what we are talking about here. There is a gritty underlying tension to the human race. It has always been there. Terrorism, jihads and what have you is causing us to continue to judge people by their religion, culture and background.

War is hell, and the current theatres of operations that many American, Canadian, and other countries are involved in do not fit the old style of warfare as seen in WW2 (Cod2). These modern day conflicts are much dirtier and insidious. I think that IW has done a great job to bring to us a taste of what all our forces are living on a daily basis. I took considerably more time to play the SP than is the average here. I took my time and looked around more at the ways that IW built the maps and how much detail was given. I appreciate the work and even the commentary of how disgruntled the planet is. Im glad that some people who played this game were moved to even notice that IW was making a statement as well or at least they made one even if they didnt intend too.

Actually I asked a person a question about how they felt about the war in former Yugoslavia when it first started. He looked down to the right, down his street, and then to the left and stated, "Seems okay to me!" and closed the door.

Oh well.

Yes, unfortunately we live in a world where some people actually believe that strapping a bomb to themselves and walking into a school to set it off is okay and the right thing to do.

I can imagine all kinds of scenarios when the editor finally comes out. Plenty of movie and show related material and even the news for some material.
