i was talking to a friend about bringing back a map i made in cod2. and he asked what i planned to do about helo's and airstrikes. my initial answer was that i would leave them out. at which he stated it would have to be on an unranked server.

so my question is this. are all custom maps going to have to be played on an unranked? and, will the helo's/ airstrikes have to be dissabled server side aswell? or just from the map scripting.

No idea how this works... but... My guess is, if you make your level low enough or make the outside of your level (skybox) in a particular way, the airstrikes will actually take place outside of your level.
Kind of like with UO when your skybox isn't made correctly, the airstrike won't go into your level..

Another way of doing it is by taking your level, and putting a skybox around it.. this way, when the airstrike is called, it will take place.. but outside... so it will only hit the outside walls of your map.

Just some ideas.. there probably is a very easy solution for this, but we won't know for sure until the editor is released.

I doubt custom maps will be valid on a ranked server. the whole point of a ranked server is to make sure that the server is running according to what the developers deemed to be fair play/rules. A custom map could be unbalanced
