I think as with all the other editors, if your eager to get started then just build the map from 'caulk' blocks. I would imagine like the other editors you can just import your map to it.

How did they make the game in the first place?? the should need a simular editor. sow how does it come it takes sow long to release it for the public????

Because they are pros.. they know what they were/are doing...

Most of us do not.. so they have to make the program more idiot proof for one.

Second, they probably have to remove alot of stuff from the editor which are not exactly safe to use (like the subtract thing in the CoD editor...)

And then testing it.. etc... this takes alot of time..
And they just started working on the editor after the game was released.

Patience.. it won't get released any time sooner if you get mad/excited/whatever over it.

The thing is that the developers use a very different program than what we get. It is a developers language type of program that I do believe would be very proprietary in nature. They arent going to release that plus unless you understand it, you, me and we would most likely be very lost using it.

The version that we get is stripped of all the special ingredients that they have to use which leaves us with only what we really need to make maps.

Im ok with all this and will start mapping for cod4 when the editor is ready.

From what I've heard from our guy at Treyarch, the tools they use are fairly similar, but yes there are some more complicated tools. The issue with them is that they are constantly being updated, this made it so he could not take his maps to and from work to edit them. I think its more an issue of taking that program that they use, watering it down, and putting it into a nice little package for us. Just because it took so long to get the CoD2 tools to us doesn't mean it couldn't have been faster, but they probably only had one guy working on it or something. This time around they had a larger staff for the PC version, perhaps will be the same for the tools.
