Ok this may be a bit confusing for a lot of you but here is the story which I found on another forum
Quote: The Dimension 5150 has a 945G chipset which supports the Dual core 820 -840 CPU. When you install it, you get the Unsupported CPU message in screen, BUT no error Beep code. This leads me to believe that it is a BIOS that was programed to not allow Dual Core Chips instead of a chipset issue.
I contacted Dell a while ago and they said it isn't supported well after looking on the Intel site it is supported but like the above it says the BIOS will not allow it because Dell Programed it that way, is there anyway to bypass this? |

Its an Asus Extreme N7600GS SILENT/HTD GeForce 7600 GS 512MB PCI-E DVI/VGA Graphics Card, I have a 80GIG HD at the moment and its really really loud and I need more space(preferably silent and 250gig), I also have a External 250gig HD which is also full, i have just bought for my Dell PC, 2 x Crucial 1GB DDR2 533MHz / PC2- 4200 Unbuffered Non ECC. I guess that will still do for the new one, also I have a DVD Player & DVD Writer. I will need a new Motherboard and I want to try and get a Case with Fan controls or Water Cooling, since my room is in the attic aka Loft Conversion it gets really hot. I also have 2 Monitors, Whats the difference with Core Duo and Core 2 Duo? Is the second one a Quadcore, but anyway I need at least a Core Duo that's suited for gaming and running Virtual PC's with VMWare

- Asus P5N E SLI 650i Socket 775 PCI E Onboard Audio ATX Motherboard £65.99 Inc. VAT
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/125082
Supposed to work with your existing memory (1333/1066/533 MHz).
- Intel Pentium D 925 3GHz Socket 775 800MHz FSB OEM Processor £45.00 Inc. VAT
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132295
Pentium D is the older of dual cores. But, it comes with higher speeds for a great price. You can upgrade later. See if you can confirm from the seller this is indeed dual core as it is supposed to be.
- Western Digital WD2500AAKS Caviar SE 250GB 7200RPM SATAII 300 £47.75 VAT
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/124733
Cases are a matter of taste I have found so I can't pick that. Hopefully you have a power supply because while you have $69 (£34) to work with which is enough for a case, it might not be enough for a power supply too.
As for water cooling... not enough money here.
Core 2 is cool, but you won't get the speed. I recommend sticking with pentium D until the speed picks up. Crysis suggests a cpu with 3.0 Ghz (right? I think so). You'll still get dual core. Four cores are a waste for gamers.
Run the above list past a friend for verification. But I think it's good. This was a lot tougher than I thought due to the limitations of ebuyer and the conversion of money. hehe. |
