I saw this video on CNN about a new surface technology by Microsoft. I have to give Microsoft rep for this. It looks pretty sweet.

Check it out.

Looks like a badly thought out gimmick to me... Computers are meant to be practical devices but there is nothing practical about that... I'd love to see someone try & type a word document on that or do some photo editing or something... Cool maybe but utterly useless bar a few commercial uses... Something tells me i'll be sticking with my PC for a good while yet...

Surface isn't a new thing for Microsoft. It's been going on for a few years now.

Like Tim451 said, it really isn't pratical for home use. However that doesn't stop them being useful in places such as classrooms or even something simple like on a vending machine.

I don't think it's out to replace desktop computers, but I do think that Microsoft will push this for other things. I think it's nice... probably very expensive though.

yes - it isn't new

we in fact talked about it on modsonair quite a few weeks ago as they were 'supposedly' getting ready to release it into the wild

a few other places that it would be beneficial are conference tables for large, multi national companies, hospitals - and prehaps even shopping malls

parts of this technology have already been implemented, ans 10-1 you use every day....

blue-tooth technology...touch-screens...touch-sensitive interfaces....virtual projected keyboards...vista OS...the list probably goes on - but as super and tim said - not practical as a whole package...but it does show you some things that are coming out / or in development for release
