i found when i made my base plate and put it level with the ground it didnt work, then when i move it so it was above my floor level it worked, altho it dosnt look right when the plate its sticking up, it kinda spoils the effect cus when u play the map u can see the plate sticking up n it kinda gives it away,

ill try n describe what my i wana use the base plate for,
i have a bridge n i want a base plate 2 fly up and a lost soul 2 come up thro the hole, and u can also fall down the hole in2 the long foggy endless pit :P

on my bridge i cut a square out fo rmy base plate i followed foylemans tut and it didnt work, so i played around n when i put my base plate above the bridge it worked, so i moved the base plate up so it was sticking out above the rest of the bridge and it worked fine, tho u can see it sticking up when u play the game and it spoils the effect, if there anyway 2 get it level with my bridge so u dont see it there, then it sudden jumps up

ill send u a testmap if anyone wants it to understand what it looks like and see my problem.

baseplate is just a regular brush turned movable_base entity.

I think I understand the problem. The baseplate can't be sticking in anything or it won't move. It will think it's already hit the ceiling or whatever it might hit.

You should cut that spot out of the floor and rest the plate in it. make sure it isn't sticking into any other brushes. That should work.

Yes it will work that way... ;)
But if it don't move as you want, it might be due to the friction of other brushs next to. To fix it, add the key : friction and the value : 1 to turn it on just like the USAGE tell...

There should be a description in the entity editor of the friction property, if it's a major one. It may also be that you are giving it a good amount of Z-axis spin; so much so, in fact, that it's simply locking into place with the four barriers around it when it tries to move. This would probably be solved by the friction thing, though.
