There is one way to make it end:

Every gamer donate a dollar to a special fund . . . with this fund we go and find a hitman to take care of Thompson. I mean I do not think they will be willing to prosecute hundreds of thousands of people over one pitiful mans's "life".

Look out everyone. I believe the next Winnie the Pooh game will be rated M [tongue]. If Thompson would be the head of ESRB then say hellooooo piracy, cus noone can prevent someone from playing any game these days.

True, but as far as game developing goes, if the developers can't have their current game meet their target audience because of, oh I don't know, lets say a huge jackass, they will be forced to alter the game to meet "standards."

If this is the case, it is very likely we will end up with the same game, altered to be sold to who they want under the ESRB rating system.

At least that is my understanding of it.

I'm pretty sure this is nothing but a satirical story. Sounds like something i'd expect to read on The Onion website. Besides which, the ESRB isn't even a government agency from what I understand. Either way I sure hope this isn't true because as Supersword said, it would have implications worldwide & game developers would be making their games to conform to ESRB standards instead of those of the BBFC or PEGI. After all, the majority of game developers are either based in the US or are subsidaries of larger game developers or publishers that are based in the US. There was the whole recent uproar with the BBFC banning Manhunt 2 but if Jack Thompson was to head the ESRB I doubt he'd allow the release of any game by Rockstar at all, or at least certainly not in the US. It sickens me that in this world adults in positions of power are trying to tell other adults what they can and can't do. I swear the world is going crazy...

I agree, that’s what will most likely happen

Does The ESRB have any Jurisdiction of the exportation of games from the USA though? Or would game developers be aloud to sell the unaltered versions to the UK and the rest of Europe because the ESRB has (although they do try) no control over the rest of the world
