I'm gonna make a gun from Half-life 2, the gravity gun. but I don't know how to change the fire efx or make it move stuff. any help? I'm sure some of this could be done through scripting, but I have yet to:
make the Xmodel
find out how to make the EFX
find a good firesound

The scripting would be the hard bit, actually.

I can't think of how this can be done, due to cod's damn near lack of a physics engine. Oh, and anything moveable would need to be a script_model / script_brushmodel, which would mean that you would need quite a few of those to make it interesting, which would add to the gamestate chars, and the server traffic, and stuff.

But, we can help you with the models and efx.

Hmm, can't make it take right clicks either, unless we use (isads()) and make the gun not zoom when aimed down...hmm...

Edit: oh wait, the E key

the scripting, I can figure it out with time, and a good tut. I can't figure out how to convert how to make my XMODEL_EXPORT file into a Xmodel by using the asset manager. something said that I need a shader. All i basically have is my XMODEL_EXPORT file. don't really know how to do anything else.

Converting models:

It's less what you can figure out with scripting, but more cod's limitations. You would only be able to move the box left and right, not up and down, and you'd probably need a custom map for it, with lots of scripted entities in.

Great idea but I'm sorry to say that that it's pretty much impossible with the game engine. You would need an advanced physics engine for that and CoD has nothing of the sort.

If you keep trying, good luck but I hate to see you wasting your time.

novemberdobby is right though, that if you somehow get the scripting to work, you will need to make custom maps for it or you will have a useless gun.

wait up, dont models have origins "built in"? if so, I can just change the fire effects and make ALOT of brushmodels. however, I wouldn't be able to destroy the boxes and such would I? that is, unless, I make them exploders, but I don't have that kind of time. I'm actually planning on making a BIG series of levels. like a full game kind of length. That's why I wanted to know.

in my script, can I make a line with something like:

waittill (playershoot);

so that it would act more as a trigger?

It's like Mpz said, we probably can't help you much. There is a function that can use the player's attack button, but I dare say it won't help much...

well then perhaps you can tell me where to find the weapon scripts so that I can study them to the death. I really want to know how to do this.
