Hi, I am a total newb to modding. I once tried to skin some bits of CoH, and it went quite well. I found a great easy to follow tutorial here for cod, but every cod2 skinning tutorial for newbies I find has a load of files, and to me, unclear explanations, as thought you should know what's going on.

Can someone please tell me what to do to edit a skin, or link me to a tutorial that is good for newbies? Thanks.

What don't you understand about those skinning tutorials exactly? And can you post a link to the one of those, so we know what you're talking about?

Here's what the readme says.

.DDS Plug-In Instructions: Run the plug-in installation, and it will ask you to place it in a folder. Place it in C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop\Plug-Ins\File Formats
If the .DDS plug-in is not correctly installed you will not be able to open the file in Photoshop.

1. Using PakScape or a similar program begin by going to C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty 2\Main. Set “Types of File” to “All Files”. Scroll until you see iw_10.iwd. Open the archive and scroll until you see the files with the prefix "Weapon" (Most weapon files have the prefix “weapon”) Not just weapon files can be skinned but for example we will be using the file "Weapon_g43_c.iwi." Click-and-Drag this file onto your desktop along with the included iwi2dds & dds2iwi converting tools. I did this alright.

Click-and-Drag the “weapon_g43_c.iwi” file and place it onto your iwi2dds converter. Once this is done a .dds file should magically appear on your desktop. It should be named "weapon_g43_c.iwi_out.dds”. The file has just been converted to the .dds format and
is ready for editing.

I click and drag it onto iwi2dds converter and voila, nothing happens :(

I just tried it again making sure I hadn't messed something up (downloaded again as well)

I did the plugin thing. Photoshop launches but it doesn't ask me anything. More to the point, it does nothing other than launching photoshop.

Never mind, the tutorial said the wrong file name. I placed it onto the other file thingy and it produced the copied image. Even though it wouldn't let me install the plugin as normal I pasted it into the folder and this time it worked. I have a big blob of black to the riht of the image file which shouldn't be there but that's easily fixed. Thanks anyway, can you delete this thread for me please?
