I just bought a new 1920x1200 resolution LCD monitor. So I started up CoD2 and played around with the settings. Well on one profile (which I aptly named "Maximum"), I maxed out all the graphics settings to for testing framerates. Well now that I had a higher possible resolution to try I went ahead and bumped the resolution in that profile up to 1920x1200. I had already tried the resolution on my playing profile and it had worked, although slowly.

When I applied the change I was greeted with this error and was unable to start CoD2.

Code:
Error during initialization:
Create2DTexture( $dynamic_shadows, 1920, 1200, 0, 21 ) failed: 8876017c = Out of video memory

I went back into CoD2:MP safe mode and changed the resolution of all profiles down to 1440x900. I can run the game fine after those changes but every time I try and start multiplayer through the regular shortcut I get the same error.

I am running two XFX 6600GTs in SLI.

Does anyone have any prior experience with this error?

That's probably because the old shortcut still uses a 1900x1200 profile, which your videocard doesn't have enough memory for (to run at all the settings to maximum.
To check this, go to CoD2/Main/Players/[profile names]/mp_config.cfg and check the resolution.
Maybe CoD2 in safe mode won't save the config changes you make. It's safe mode after all.

If you want to play at 1900x1200, I suggest turning all the graphic settings down, setting it to 1900x1200, and then one by one, tweaking with the settings, testing every time if you can still play the game.

Well I had already made sure each profile's multiplayer config file listed 'seta r_mode "1440x900"'

I suppose I could just delete the "Maximum" profile and recreate it. I'm not sure if that would help though.

On a related note, somehow my "Minimum" profile disappeared when this error started. I wonder if the two are related.

In case anyone is wondering I figured out what the problem was. My main CoD2 shortcut was using a fs_game folder while my CoD2 safe mode shortcut was using the main player profiles so whatever changes I made weren't being made in the fs_game profiles. I can't believe I forgot about that.
