Hey guys,

I'm wondering, what do you guys recommend when building a map as to the stages of build. eg...

1) Add sidewalks and pavements

2) Add buildings

3) Add road textures / patches

4) Add Skybox

5) Add detail : sandbags, vehicles etc

I'm finding I am having to move a lot of stuff around now that my map is almost complete, but this is taking way too much time, obviously better planning would help but I just thought there is perhaps a routine that you guys use each time you prepare a map.

Thanks

Norm

These are the steps that I normally use.

1: Design on paper.

2: Rough in buildings and terrain. (do whatever there is more of first. If it's a countryside map do the terrain first. If it's a city map do the buildings first.)

3: Add models, detail work.

4: Test, fix problems, repeat.

1 .Design on paper, only for a rough idea

2. Map it out, with basic terrain and just use solid cube(s) for building placement.

3. Make the buildings. I personaly make them outside my map, just use them as a prefab, and i would totally finish the house, so nothing had to be done to it atfer placed in main map.

4. Add all buildings, and fix terrain, any alpha blending and such that needs to be done.

5. Add outside models (trees, hedges etc)

6. Odjective location placement (adding SD sites and CTF flags)

&. Gametype spawn points

9. Test, fix any problems.

10. Complte any other files needed (.gsc and loadsrceen, etc)

11. Put together an .iwd, then do about 1-2 months beta testing between a clan or friends, sort out problems found during those test.

And then your done.

And you shouldn't.
Sniper, that button is going to get you into trouble one of these days.. mark my words..

Do NOT use the CSG subtract button. Learn to use the clipper tool.

Not to complete the hijack of this thread but there is nothing you can do with CSG that you can't do with the clipper tool. Some things may take a bit more time but in the end you'll have a better product and avoid possible misfortunes.
