Hello. I just want to know where do you people get ideas from? I know how to make a map but i don' t have any good ideas for map. And my maps don' t look like a good piece of work but like my first map just becauze I don' t know how to make all the detail to give a map a good look.

Google is your friend. key words: war, war pictures, WWII, etc.....

usually or you have a fair idea of what you want to do or you start and go along with building the map.

I would recommend to try and see whether you wan to have a "realistic" map or something totally out of context (regarding CoD2). Then you could go and look for material over the net. It is a bit like everything, you can't just make something totally out of the blue unless you are a genius/expert. And even then more you want to have details more you have to think and get ideas for those.

I am very much of a beginner myself, but every time I am on a new map I spent a good couple of days browsing the internet for material: picture of a place, location in battlefield, consistency of buildings I find pictures of. I save most of the relevant stuff on my pc so I can retrieve them easely.

There is no definitive solution there, so you just have to go on and start (that is if you are really that keen on mapping).

So, why do you guys make maps? You do it just because you' re having fun doing it or you just want your map to be played on servers? I personally started learning how to make a map because i saw other people' s maps playing on a server. So when I' m making a map I just can' t wait to finish it so I can shot it to some people.

but to answer: I love to be able to create something map as I loved modelling small airplaines when I was a kind. ;)

I create maps because I used to love to play with these toy soldiers when I was young. In my mind I formed a whole story about one of them, which was the hero, and then I created a scenario in my head while watching these static toy soldiers!

These days, I love to create little firefights in the game, isn't it fantastic that you can create whatever you want! That's why I'm mapping,

I usually get alot of my ideas from existing maps. find a couple maps you like, isolate what it is that you like about them, think of a theme for your map(sewers, city, etc.), and then just see what comes into your head! it's usually good to stick to a base plan and not vary too much otherwise you might not get what you wanted. small changes make all the difference!

I found interesting map of a city and im working on it right now. It' s nearly finished... I' m trying to give my map better look like adding some crates and stuff. so map isn' t going to look too nooby

In the Cod 2 download section there's a file you can download that contains screenshots of the models (crates, vehicles etc:) that you can use in your map, very handy
