Is there anyway to start a CoD or CoD UO server without actually running the game.

I want to do this because my server box doesn't like like the graphics etc and won't start up CoD.

you can't open it?!?!? well then how are you going to mod the server and such? i mean, you could type in something you think will work, but then never know if it will work! you'll NEED to resolve this problem before you try to start a server. and you'll probably want a website for your server/clan. It requires alot of work and maintenance. you sure your up for it?

You'll have to run the game on your server box - but you can try adding this line to your config

/set r_allowSoftwareGL 1

that might let the game load up. Once you get in, set all the graphics, performance, and sound options to minimum to take as much stress off the cpu as possible

We already have a website, we have everything done besides the cod game server (I have a bf2 server running on it also). We have our very own box, not a paid host, a file server and some other stuff, so I wont have any trouble hosting mods etc.

Host the server and use Rcon that will work

Reading what you have said, I am going to assume you have remote access to a independent box.

Remote access works on a series of images being saved, then sent to you. Are you sure that it is the box which isn't loading the game or could it be an issue with RA?

Secondly, you will need a server config file (.cfg) and an editted shortcut to start it. This will load up the dedicated server without loading the game. However to my knowledge, even the server requires OpenGL which means that if your box doesn't support it, you need to change hosts.

Thirdly, I suggest searching everything I said in the second point using the search function on this site. This qiestion was answered not so long ago.

First you will want to go and buy a router. I suggest a gamming router. Then login to the router (192.168.1.1, username and password read the manual) then forward port 28960. Start a deadicated server internet (make sure the port is 28960) Now you have a server that should show up on the server list.

One problem hosting a server off your computer is,
1. You have 0 to 10 ping.
2. Players will have 200+ ping
3. There will be a major lag for other players.
