I'm planning on entering this, 6 weeks seems like it should do, could be cutting it close, but then again i'm a big procrastinator. [casanova]

Should just make it a themed contest (people have to fufill requirements o having stuff in their maps -- power station, warehouse, river, etc...) that way people start from scratch or have to redesign their entire layout... that way no one has the upper hand (which is probably why only a few people enter the contests, most [not all] people who haven't already started prefabs/mapping feel intimidated).

I can see what you mean Sparks. Yet it's nice to have a challenge. (If you know what I mean)

I agree with Sparks.

To me, too make it a fair playing ground. If it states that the competition is 6 weeks. Then all entrys must be started on or after the start date and if a basic theme is introduced. Then a themed contest would give everyone a focus point. As mapping is open ended then everyones map will be quite different. I imagine it would be quite fun to judge as well!

Kinda like a colouring in contest! Except a little more creative!

(I actually typed this before fully reading Sparks comments. Basically its the same).

OK.. I spoke with Batistablr and we came up with an idea that should be very interesting.

- we extend the contest one more week so that we can change it
- we provide you a map file with a sky boundary and a terrain. This is your mapping boundary.
- we also provide at least one custom texture that must be used in the map.
- you must use this as the basis for your map.

We all have the same amount of time for the map. Plus this extra week is like an announcement of the contest to get you in the right mindset.

Sound good to everyone?

Sounds good :D
One question though, does it have to be multiplayer or can you also submit a singleplayer map?

I think that either will be quite fine.

YOU MUST WAIT FOR THE STARTER MAP!
You will be required to use the map that we supply you. It will be your starting ground and will contain a skybox and terrain. From there, you will build your map.
We extended the contest so I can have a day or two to put the map together (probably untextured so you can let your imagination do the work for you).
