If you guys submitted your maps last competition even though it wasn't done, is it really fair to submit it this time around for people who are starting from scratch.

[duh]

I don't see why not. I see it as the bascially same as someone having having a busy life and not having much time to make a map in the six week limit, where as someone like me who has no life at the moment, having pretty much 24 hours a day to mess about with a map lol - can't really penalize something like that

I never actually submitted my map. I'm sure one of the conditions was that it had to be playable and as complete as possible.

Sure I could run around in the map. Yet there were alot of glitches, bugs, tears in terrain, holes that you could get outside the play area. No one in there right mind would submit something so incomplete and buggy.

On top of this, I had an unstable computer that kept resetting which did not help the situation. When you find yourself redoing the same thing 5 times over. Believe me, it is frustrating. Sure I saved as often as I could, but I had to constantly revert to backup copys as the file wold also corrupt after a reset.

As it was, I'm sure you'll find that entries from last comp weren't started when the competition started. Some were. Some weren't.

As long as we have not released the map privately or otherwise. Then it should be legal.

In saying that. I have no problem starting a new map just for this competition.

(unless the comp moderators state otherwise!?)

I'm basically running the contest, and you are allowed to do that, as long as it has not been publicly released. You are fine.

This is good, I believe such contests are good source of keeping the map makers going towards one goal, and keeping the mapping community up and running.

I myself after finishing Warsaw, Poland didn't think that I will go and make anything more to the time until COD4 will be out.
But last 2 weeks I worked on a new map, just worked out my scatches of the level, and started doing buildings for prefabs and its in beginning stages as of last week.
I don't know if I could finish it before the end date but you never know.

Can maps be submitted that have only been privately released - like on your own clan's server?
That to me sounds like an internal release and not a public release. If the map is available to anyone, that would be a public release.
We encourage internal testing of maps to prevent bugs.

Maps that were previously submitted cannot be submitted again. IF you were working on a map and never submitted it, then you can finish the map and submit it this time. If I see a map that I saw in a previous contest, I will disqualify it.

That might make it a public release. We will discuss it internally.

Should just make it a themed contest (people have to fufill requirements o having stuff in their maps -- power station, warehouse, river, etc...) that way people start from scratch or have to redesign their entire layout... that way no one has the upper hand (which is probably why only a few people enter the contests, most [not all] people who haven't already started prefabs/mapping feel intimidated).
