for the new to this what specifically causes those textures / walls etc
that seem to have been stretched and distorted - ive often wondered because i generally just mess with the textures until its right but what EXACTLY causes it, any ideas /?

Have you tried to select your wall the press "S" and click on Natural or fit?

textures will sometimes try to align themselves, so they stretch to fit.

on terrain patches you can hold down control/alt and toggle the n button to cycle through all the various stages of the texture...ie lightmap, fit, etc.

interesting i will check it out, it is just a thing that pops up alot, especially in my prefabs, not all the time, all angles are perfect with no brush overlaps but these strange stretched textures appear across certain brushes - probably happens to a few mappers in the beginning..i might scour the forums for the most common little asked errors and make a list of them, and post it...if i get the time.
