Can anyone help me understand what duplicate plane is and what causes it, I spent a lot of time making a building and all the prefabs i made for it to make it look not like just 4 walls and a roof and all the prefabs seem to be duplicate planes. The building has been built on an angle has this got something to do with it?

Thanks

omg I think EVERYTHING in my map that on an angle is duplicate plane. As I delete entity '132' then i go compile it again then entity 132 duplicate plane is still the but its another prefab seems to always be things i have rotated with the free rotate i thought this is good because things doing get distorted like they do with arbitary rotate.
half my map is built on rotate so I guess im kinda a bit ******

it could have something to do with it. basically a duplicate plane error occurs when you have overlapping brushes. In game this can cause a flashing effect of the two brushes because the game doesn't know which brush to draw. however, I have noticed with radiant that sometimes the duplicate plane error comes up in the compiler even when you don't have overlapping brushes. Brushes where the edges/vertices have been altered or brushes that are angled like yours could be the cause of this problem. To check yourself write down the brush numbers that the compiler shows and then find those brushes in radiant. You may find that some actually are overlapping brushes or maybe they are just brushes that have been altered. In either case it's not too big of a deal unless you see the effects in the game.

Lots of duplicate planes can cuase lag in-game, as the engine is trying to draw 2 or more brushes at the same spot.

Another cause can be "undoing" thing with the "Ctrl + Z" command. So dont use that either, always delete and remake if you do something wrong.

you shouldn't use ctrl+Z? Is it the only shortcut that is bugged?
Is it bad even for two prefabs to be overlapping?

a duplicate plane error is when 1 or more planes occupy the same coordinate space with opposing directional textures

multiple brushes in the exact same location (ctrl+z, ctrl+p, and ctrl+c can all seem to cause this error)...***hint - always use the spacebar to replicate brushes or items and ALWAYS leave snap to grid on during normal mapping proceedures***

yes - it is bad to have prefabs overlapping
