This isn't a question or I have a problem thread. I tried search but not really sure how to word it in order to see if discussed before, so...

I took a building prefab, entered to modify to my liking, saved it, left prefab.
It looked like what I wanted.
I copied the prefab, saved it, opened my working map and inserted the modified prefab.
Compiled the working map, ran it to test the look and feel and to see how the prefab was in relation to other objects.
Looked great but had a couple of small mods to do on the prefab.
Closed game, opened editor, went into same prefab, did the modifications, saved the prefab, exited the prefab but forgot to copy it and put it in my working map.
I compiled the working map anyways, ran it and lo and behold the modified prefab was changed, yet I never put it in the working map a second time.

A prefab is a .map file.

When you save/edit change the prefab the file changes - your map will load the yourprefab.map file, so if you update your prefab then load your map you will see the changes to it.

All you have to do is remember that a prefab is not inside you map, but there is merely a link to it, that loads the prefab into your map during compile.

Yeah, I know that a prefab is a .map file. The oddity in this is the changing of the prefab in a completely different map.

I have one map I'm using to change prefabs and make objects.

I have a working map for making of the map I will release next. It has all the files needed for release, gsc, sound, extures, load screen, etc.

I make changes to the prefab in the smaller map and it also changes in the working map, without my putting it there.

Is that because I save the prefab in the smaller map and it is linked through the editor ?

It loads the .map file of the prefab.

Any map that the prefab is in will be affected - you have to remember that the prefab is a SEPERATE file, which is loaded into the map. If you change the original .map file of the PREFAB then the prefab will be different in all maps that the prefab features in.
