Hi,

Since I'm new to modeling, I've got a probably stupid question:

Buying the full version of 3DS max would be way too expensive (5000$ is a bit out of my range =)), so, can I use Blender to create something for Radiant as well as MAX?
Ah yea and where can I find some tutorials for Blender or can I use the tuts for max?

waiting for help - thx Slagjoeyoco [quake]

Great little programme. There used to be a few sites around and from what I remember it had quite the following. This link might help out.

You might also be interested in Milkshape which is another great programme for the Beginners - Experienced Modeler.

Cheers

As foxhound said Milkshape 3d is prob your best option to start with and the cheapest at around £25 i think it is .. then the next higher up would be lightray 3d at around £60.

It is possible to use Blender to export static models to Call of Duty 2 Radiant. Roterbaron's Xmodelcreator is available on modbase.be. I got it from www.wesoco.de last year, but I can no longer access that site.

I've also written an export script for Blender to COD2. Just look in the COD2 tutorials section. It only does static models at the moment; am working on getting a useable anim exporter too.

Hmm. looks like the tutorial got moved to the BF2 section. A new, updated version of the tut is available here. Am also working on an xanim_export script for Blender. So far, I've only been able to get animations with a single moving bone to work correctly.

Okay! Rasta kindly moved the tutorial back to the COD2 section.

I've also got the animation export script to work correctly. It's on the same site as the xmodel_export tut. Shout if you want me to put it here on modsonline as well.

I've got a tutorial up now for the Blender to Call of Duty 2 .xanim_export script.

It's here at the moment.

If anyone wants me to put it on modsonline, give me a shout.

Hello,

Will this work for COD4 also? I'm just getting started.

Thanks,

It may possibly work for COD4 (insert disclaimers here).

I haven't invested in COD4, so I don't have any example files to work with. On the other hand, I believe the format hasn't changed very much from that of COD2.

I don't know if this is legal, but the easiest way for me to have a look at the format is if you upload an .xmodel_export example file from the COD4 mod tools (there's bound to be one in the directory somewhere) to the modsonline site (oh, and I see that you can put attachments on your post as well) and then post here, so I know where to look.

Again, not sure if it's legal.

P.S. I haven't yet got around to improving the existing tutorials for COD2 xmodel and xanim creation with Blender. Consider them WIP
