This week we’re showing off the multiplayer perk, “Deep Impact.” Before I jump into the details of what Deep Impact allows you to do, here’s the low-down on Bullet Penetration in the game.

In Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, we’ve introduced a new Bullet Penetration system to both Single-player and Multiplayer that allows you to shoot through certain objects in the game that would normally be used as cover (i.e. Walls, floors, ceilings).

That said, what you can shoot through depends on three main variables:

* The Ballistics of the weapon you’re using.
* The relative ‘thickness’ of the object you’re shooting through.
* The distance between you and the object you’re firing into.

These three things determine IF you can shoot through the object, and if you can, how strong the bullet will be once it passes through it.

It changes the entire way you play the game; suddenly it’s not just about getting to cover, but about getting to hard cover. In multiplayer, this can change your tactics dramatically. Rather than simply picking a weapon to take into a firefight, you can carefully craft your weapon’s load out to the environment you’ll be fighting in.

In the video, we made sure to take huge advantage of bullet penetration, showing off how the M249 SAW makes light work of thin plaster walls and wooden floor boards. Now how does the Deep Impact perk play into this?

Well, for a weapon like the M249 Saw (featured in the video), obviously it has the power to easily shoot through plaster walls, wooden floors, and even some fairly thick stone walls--but what about an M4 Carbine, or some other lower caliber rifle? Normally, weapons like these wouldn’t be able to penetrate stone walls or thick surfaces like the M249 SAW.

However, if you have Deep Impact selected as a perk, you will have INCREASED bullet penetration on whatever weapon you use. This allows you to pierce thicker objects, and with increased strength as it passes through. Turn Deeper Impact on and your M4 Carbine that used to be stopped by thin walls now penetrates through them easily, taking out anyone attempting to use it as cover.

Keep in mind though; you are limited to only three perks per custom class. So in order to have Deep Impact, you’re giving up something else, such as LAST STAND, or another perk. Choices…. Choices!

BTW: I meant to say that your report on your visit to HQ was awesome. Really. That was good reporting and a great review of what's going on. Thanks for that. [thumbs_up]

Blame really falls on the admins of the servers.

It's really obvious if someone shoots you through a wall with a hack.

It isn't an easy thing to do when we saw it at the IW studio, you have to know for sure someone is on the other side and you have to know exactly where they're at and what stance they're in.

If someone constantly picks you off with direct heads shots... it's quite obvious. Todd (lead MP designer) was showing it off and he had a hard time killing people through walls, he had to spray about two clips before killing someone on the other side.

Plus penetration depends on:
Distance between bullet origin and target.
Wall thickness.
Bullet strength.

So that makes it harder if someone wants to use a hack.
They can't just sit across the map and pick people off (which is obvious to server admins).

In a slightly different version of what KillJoy wrote... here's to all the whining kids on forums complaining about perks/hackers, worse then the kids in-game complaining about actual hackers. [drink][drink]

My main concern is the graphics. It looks like original call of duty graphics, maybe even worse. In all the previous videos, its funny how the graphics look super amazing but actual ingame videos look...err..not super amazing. I'm not trying to bash the game or anything, but showing off pre-rendered stuff and then actual ingame stuff and then not looking anything like eachother...it doesnt look too good.

Graphics were pretty amazing on the PC rendered in DX9 when we saw it.

Oh man, the character models are the best I've ever f--king seen. The normal maps on them were very high res. The faces were realistic. You could actually see clothing threads on the character models. Accessories on them were sweet too, like a digital watch an American soldier was wearing!

The over all quality of models and textures are high.

You'll love the FX too. They showed us butterflies floating about in maps, and water splashing around, and water running down a bobbling brook, real time smoke, explosions, night vision, etc. Very high detailed stuff.

The only pre-rendered stuff they've shown in the public is the fade in/out of Price's face in the trailer and the moving flag.

I still can't believe it was all DX9, from the quality of the graphics I would have thought it was DX12. [tongue]
