I have recently made a map using custom textures. I have followed the tutorials on custom texture making and followed other map making methods I have replicated many times to make the correct iwd file. The problem I am having is when I zip up in to an iwd file and place in main folder to test I get this.

1.The map wont load without having pure set as no and dedicated set to no also.
2. The map appears in the map list for DM and its loading screen image is shown ( I have set this map to dm only to test)But when loading the map with it set to as stated in num1 the loading screen does not show up and instead get the standard checker board effect.

I have found another map that worls for me by another mapper and unzipped to see how they had theirs set up in order to correct any mistakes I may have made but everything is as it should be from what I can see comparing both unzipped iwds
A previous attempt also using custom textures would not load on server it said that map could not be found

could someone please help I am not a noob but theres always chance i have missed something or made a comon simple mistake.

how should an iwd file be set up with custom textures might help as the tutorial for iwd doesnt cover this it might be something wrong there [crazy]

I believe you will need both a materials subfolder and a textures subfolder in your iwd.

Dumb question, but you did use asset manager to convert not only your custom textures, but your loading screen as well, right?

Loading problems: many problems can be resolved by removing any custom maps or mods from your main folder, other than your custom map of course.

To answer #1

When you test your map on your computer (server) you still have to set Pure = No and Dedicated = No

To hopefully answer #2

You need to have two (2) separate folders for your custom textures.

One folder you will call "images" and in there you will place the ".iwi" files that the asset manager made when you made the texture. You will need to send that folder in the ".iwd" folder when you want to send the map to a server or for testing on your computer (server).

The second folder you will call "materials" and in it you will place the other texture file that the asset manager made as well. The same rules apply to this folder as in the "images" folder in that you must include both of these folders in order to see the textures ingame whether it is on a public server or your computer (server).

Remember that for you loadscreen to be seen also make sure that you have put those files made by the asset manager in the two respective folders described above.

The advice that Sgtbilkothe3rd gave you about mods and customs in your /main is sound advice indeed. Store them elsewhere while you are working in radiant or while testing your map on your computer (server).

I used the asset manager to sort both custom textures as well as the loading screen the custom textures where saved in dxt3 and the loading screen in dxt5 as advised in the tutorials

my folders inside the iwd are as follow

map>>mp
(mp_ott.csv mp_ott.d3dbsp mp_ottd3dprt mp_ott.gsc)

mp
( mp_ott.arena )
images
(camo1.iwi grip2.iwi loadscreen_mp_ott.iwi metal1.iwi metal2.iwi recruit.iwi scratch1.iwi scratch2.iwi wall1.iwi wall2.iwi wall3.iwi wall4.iwi wall5.iwi)

material
(camo1 grip2 loadscreen_mp_ott metal1 metal2. recruit scratch1 scratch2 wall1 wall2 wall3 wall4 wall5 )

files in images taken from activision>cod2>main>images
files in matrerials taken from activision>cod2>main>material

also all custom maps and mods have been removed to test to see if that was the problem and it wasnt still stummped

I think your zip-file will be wrong.
If your run the game with sv_pure 1, only maps from iwd-files will be loaded by the game.
There you got the error message that the game can't found your map.
If you run the map with sv_pure 0 maps in the folder main/maps/mp will be loaded also.
Normally if you have a map in the folder main/maps/mp and a map in an iwd file with the same name, the map from the iwd file will be loaded. But if the iwd-file is wrong, the game can only find the map in the folder main/maps/mp. So your zip-file will be the problem.

When you zip your files, be sure you don't change the compression method. It must be normal so CoD2 can open it (don't use fast or extra compression). And be sure the folder structure will be stored in the zip file too.
