I realize that a crash may be the most common error with the editor, and there is a variety of ways to fix it, so I am posting in hope that some one can aid me in doing so.

Whenever I am in the editor for about 3 minutes or save something I've done, it crashes. I get the little annoying message and I get to choose whether or not to send an error report. This is frustrating, but I've managed to deal with it by saving often. Despite my overcoming of this, I would like to solve the problem fully so that it is no longer even a problem. Any suggestions?

Free up as much RAM as possible before starting the editor. Turn autosave off in the preferences and make sure you have no other memory hungry programs running (such as a image editor, WMP etc..)

That doesn't seem to do much for me. Should I post my dxdiag stuff?

Id reinstall, say alt+ctrl+delete, if theres any processes u dont no about type them into google. U may have some un neccary stuff running.

I've done all of the above and it still crashes on me when I save it.

Can someone help me.I can't get my COD map to load for some reason.It gives me an error saying Map maps\yourmapname.bsp has the wrong version number. (1701080941 should be 59).It also did the same thing to me in COD2 when I try to run my maps - Map maps\yourmapname.d3dbsp has the wrong version number. Please can someone help me.

Make a new thread, don't post in other people's threads with your own problems.

And sorry for the double post, but the problem seems to only occur when I save the map. I turned off autosave as suggested above, and it no longer crashes at the 3-minute intervals that I had autosave at. Now, it only crashes when I'm prepared to save the changes I've made. This problem is annoying, but not holding me back from mapping. Just letting you know that it's no emergency, though I would like to have it fixed.

Did you go through the procedure for running the editor for the first time and setting the default folders and such?

Sounds like you have Windows Vista? I have Vista and I have the same problem, however I set my autosave to 1 Hour just incase something happens it'll still save. But sometimes it has crashed for me and not saved it. Please post a reply if you have found a permanent fix for the problem.
