On a map with . .. ....

Say two rooms, and a hall between them like Foylemans Optimization map TUT.

If you were to place doors on the entrance to each room, would you need a vis portal as well? or doeas a door shut the draw off because it seals the room?

You must put it. Doors doesn't shut the draw off :)

Like as windows (even if there is a glass)...

I guess... [devilishgrin]

actually doors can stop vis by themselves - I noticed first thing - the D3 engine is much better optimised this way than the Q3 engine was.

Doors will not stop a vacume though without a portal.

use r_showtris 1 and see

a closed door stops the engine from drawing whats behind it.

edit:

I was just thinking though - when I tested this I was using a brush as a door, it may need a portal with a model door - dunno [tongue]

That's interesting to note.

IT used to be that an entity, be it a door or whatever, could not stop the vis.

Doors do not stop vis. Do r_showoverdraw 1 and the engine shows it is still drawing things behind the door. r_showtris 1 only shows the triangles of what you can currently see, not what the engine is drawing out of your view.

another r_showtris option to play with is a value of 3. Then you don't need the overdraw command which makes it impossible to see your console.

Awesome thats much easier than the overdraw command. I noticed showtris 2 seems to do almost the same thing except it simplifies the tris of models.

I belive the number after the r_showtris is the distance that it covers when it draws the polygons. When I tried it in my map the higher the number the farther back it drew [pimp]

I only noticed a difference with 1,2 and 3. not with any other numbers.
