Hello All,

This is probably a very broad question but...
Does anybody have an opinion on which fps game/game engine is the most flexible and adaptable in regards to making a TotalConversion?

I.E. which game will let me get the furthest away from it's original design and let me change as many of the art, sound, music assets and gameplay as possible?

(a fairly modern game would be good)

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If you are talking modification and not something you want to sell later, then I recommend in this order:
- Quake 4
- Half-Life 2
- Crytek (new one coming)

If you want to sell it later and you will have money to license:
- Half-Life 2

If you won't have money to license then there are too many to choose from:
- old quake engine
- tribes
- many other small developers

In my opinion, It think you should start learning to mod the game/engine that you most like, which results in more satisfaction of your work. For example, my favorite game is call o duty (now 2 ofcourse), and have been modding it for over 2 years, just because i can satisfy myself with the possibilities i can get out of the engine.

Excellent point. All of the games I mentioned above I have worked on at some point and therefore know something about them. One important thing I know is that I like working with them for one reason or another. This is why I listed them.

Read the replies in this post. Then use that as a guide to exploring the games mentioned. Make sure you like the game. Then see if you like the tools available. If you don't know anything about any tools at all just yet, then look for the level of community support available for that game. You want to know that if a question comes up that you'll be able to find an answer.
