I have been asked this a few times so I did a tut on it. Hope it helps if you want to do this.

Converting maps without the map file means taking aloooot of screenshots of the map you want to convert then trying to re create, this takes prob 50x longer then porting. Ive only done this with 2 maps and they were pretty small maps. I know you can open the bsp file of the map you wanna convert and take down all the loacations of the models and then add them to your own maps map file to give you a ruff idea of where everything goes.

On the other hand If you have the .map file the process isnt to dif.

As for programs You would need cod1 and the radiant installed on your pc along with uo if you want to convert uo maps.

For this tut Ill assume you want to convert a cod1 map to cod2, I will use freeport as the example:

First open the map you want to port in the cod1 radiant:

If its a mirrored map select half a side and delete it:

Now press the i key and select everything. I mean everything, models, spawns, clip and so on. And turn into caulk

And your map will now look like so:

Now save the map file in your cod2 map source folder

Now save the map in the cod1 radiant without saving over the original cod1 map, save it as freeport_ caulk or something, and then re open the original cod1 map and open up the cod2 radiant and open up the map you have just saved in there.

You will see the map totally in caulk along with pink squares that represent all the models, I have highlighted one of the pink sqaures and it will tell you what model it was in cod1.

Now all you have to do is re-texture the map in the cod2 radiant, with free port I used dif textures, but for A/T/B I wanted to keep the textures the same, if you want to do this also keep the cod1 rad open along with the cod2 rad & you can flick back and forth to see what textures were used where and so on.

Note: Using the pink squares as guidence for your new model replacement assures aquracy but make sure you delete all the squares afterwards or when you compile the map you will see hundreds of missing models that the compiler cant find.

Also you will have to do the same with the spawns and global intermission.

You will also prob find that some of the cod2 features like the mantle on and mantle over would benift your map.

Open up the cod1 map with notpad and take down the worldspawn settings as you can use the same settings in your port, along with fog etc in the gsc file down the line.

Hope this helps

Cool tut.

One thing to add:

If you have, for instance, 20 tanks of the same variety in your cod1 version and wish to have 20 tanks in the cod2 version, instead of replacing all 20 individually I believe it would be possible to open your cod2 .map in notepad, find all entries labeled misc/model/cod1tankwhatever and replace it with the string pointing to the new cod2 model you want to use.

This has worked for me, but I warn you to do it only at your own risk. Messing with the .map file in a text editor CAN corrupt your map if you don't know what you're doing, so make a backup first.
