there seems to be a problem with my textures as none of them show up and they are all little white boxes! I was wondering whether i need to extract some files or something before i can use the textures.
if anyone can help it would be handy

In editor, in game or both?

If the editor is giving you issues with display, check to see if your resolution for doom3 matches your desktop resolution... the editor gets buggy if the resolutions don't match.

I beleive he is refering to the editor. Like this picture.

I have heard that it is a bug. I find this quite annoying, it seems about half and sometimes more of the textures don't display. You can extract the pk4 file with all the textures and use Photoshop to browse them. But thats still something of a pain in the ass. I also find the fact that the text above the textures runs into one another to be a problem as well.

There are lots of those little white boxes. When looking at textures double click on the folder holding a set of textures and it will display all of them. Also you can resize the window for the entity viewer, texture viewer which should make viewing lots better.

Thats what I did to make that screenshot. I double clicked the folder to load all the textures, yet they still don't all display, even after resizing the window. This is a problem for Many people.

I posted this a while back and here it is again. Everyone is seeing it. Use what you got. OR, there is a great tute on making your own.

From what information I have seen is that those little black boxes are left over from the development process

I also noticed a large amount of these seemingly useless textures. I wonder, are these really nothing spots or are they actually useful and displayable in-game? If they are, id should seriously consider a Radiant patch.

are you editing in full screen mode? I only edit in windowed mode. It's more reliable.

textures/architecture only has two textures in it and they also show up as small black boxes with a white outline. They also have no preview in the Media window.
