Hello all. I'm new here. What's up.

So, I've created a brush to represent a chainlink fence. I've texured it all nodraw, then textured the front and back faces the alpha fence texture.

It looks great, but there are two important things. One, I don't think you can shoot through it. How do I set the brush up to noclip bullets...and second, I want it to make a fence or metal sound when shot.

I understand I could try and find all this myself, but I'm preoccupied with other portions of the map right now. Can you help me out?

Thank you in advance.

Don't know if this will help, but it makes a realistic chainlink that can be shot through, but grenades will bounce off.

Make the chainlink part of the fence from 2 patches back to back.
Combine the texture patches, missile and clip brushes to look like this

make them all occupy the same space, like

Someone on here posted that method, i cant take credit - really wish i could remember who tho.

Excellent. So, to re-cap: I have three total patches? You're starting out with your patch that has the fence texture, then you use a missle patch, then a clip patch--and have them all occupy the same space.

Is that correct?

And what about the fence sound when shot...can that be done?

You have 2 patches (back to back) with fence texture.
You have one brush with clip
you have one brush with missile
All occupy the same space.

If the bullets pass through the fence, then they aren't hitting it, so there'd be no sound?

If you wanted the bullets to make a sound, you'd have to play around with the clip_metal texture.......but i think you'd need to decide on either a fence you can shoot through with no sound, or a fence with a sound that won't let bullets pass.

EDIT:::

ooops I only just realised this is in the HL2 forum....... i thought it was the COD area. Hopefully things work the same - never having done any HL mapping i can't know for sure.

It probably makes a difference. No bother. I'll look around. Thanks regardless.

First, excuse me from posting in this very old topic thread but I need more information here. The pics in peri's post no longer show up, I guess he moved them, so I can't see what he is talking about. A term used in describing this method escapes me also, "patches". Is that just another term used for a texture or brush? I'm trying to make a chainlink fence but bullets will not pass through mine. They look ok until you shoot it then you see the bullet decal on the chainlink which looks stupid.
I tried searching on "realistic chainlink" to find the original post mentioned by peri but only got this post again.
Can some one help out by further explaining this method mentioned earlier?
Thanks
