Thanks to Stryder (or was it Caretaker?? my bad guys), copying & pasting or using the spacebar causes duplicate planes.

If you create a prefab of only brushes and textures, does that get around causing duplicate planes?

You can have duplicate planes in prefabs, just the same.

What if I draw all the brushes manually without copying/pasting/spacebar. That won't cause duplicate planes when I load the prefab will it?

You should try to avoid any of the pitfalls in mapping that might cause errors, whether it's a prefab, or brushes/patchwork inside the main map. Remember, a prefab is basically a map file.

oh yes, definitely, but I think you might not understand what I'm asking?

Take this for example:

I create a complete 2-3 story building with models and portals and such, then save it as a prefab. On a future map I'm working, I decide I want to use that prefabbed building. Once I load it into the new map, will that cause the duplicate plane error?

Duplicate plane errors are usually caused by things such as making triangular brushes by dragging vertices so that 2 planes (sides of the brush) form into one... There are probably other ways to get the error but thats just an example... Using the clipper tool can avoid that though... There used to be a brush cleanup tool that removed duplicate planes in GTK Radiant but it was never included in CoD Radiant & CoD2 Radiant...

As for loading a prefab into a map; no that can't cause duplicate plane errors... The only reason that would cause a duplicate plane error is if there were duplicate planes somewhere in the prefab... You can't get the error from using the space bar (or copying / pasting) to duplicate anything either... Duplicate plane errors aren't major errors anyway & the map will still compile and play without any adverse effects... I wouldn't worry about it...

If you are asking if the actual processes/functions the Radiant program uses to load prefabs into a map creates dupes, I can only say I don't know. But I can't see how something so trivial would cause and error.

I would assume that there is some basic read and write functions going on when you load a prefab and then save the map file.
