ok - put your .map file in /maps/mp/

remove the copy of your .map that is in /maps/

remove any instances of the name of your map (.map, .poly, .lin, .bsp) from the folder /maps/

put the compile .bat file that i had you create into /maps/mp/

then run the compiler (.bat file)

it appears it is running the compile off of a .map file that is in /maps/, but it looks for the bsp in the next step in /maps/mp/ and can't find it....

that is what it looks like from the compile log anyways....unless you are getting a windows popup error that you are not reporting

emitting triangles is where it stops...and the error box just says

q3map.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. then just says to send an error report or dont' send or debug

mapping = [duh]

a couple things you can try -

turn off ALL non essential programs while compiling your map - this could include background programs as well as unplugging your internet and turning off antivirus and firewall software

increase your virtual memory on your hdd

defrag your hdd

increase your ram

have someone with a more powerful computer try and compile your map for you

if it dies at that point it could be any number of things in my (limited) experience, but it is worth checking that graydiant didnt somehow blank your worldspawn values, which it has done to me a few times, so now i'm ready for it lol. Open your .map in notepad and look at the beginning - where it says classname worldspawn. If it just then says

##
brush 0
etc

and there are no
sunlight 1 etc values

this could cause the crash to desktop during compile
paste in your worldspawn values from a prior copy of your map, or re-enter them in the entity box, after selecting your skybox, save your map and re-compile.

I am having the same problem as originally stated in this post.
I was able to successfully compile my map at first, but then I just added/edited a few things, which barely changed the file size, and then i get the "freeze" at "merging into concave windings...", I realize compiling may take a while, but before these changes were made, I could compile it in about 1.5 minutes, I left it sitting for about 30 minutes with this "freeze", and it did not compile. These "changes" I made to my map were nothing major, just shrinking some brushes and making a 3-sided brush for one of my roofs. I tried shutting down background programs, but it didn't help. I seems to me that these small changes to my map shouldn't have to cause me to defrag, increase virtual memory...etc...

sorry, i was unable to copy my .bat code for more info.

A long shot:

Another really common thing that causes this CTD is moving, resizing or cloning a func_door_rotating brush. Look in your .map file for an entity with func_door_rotating but only one brush (e.g. either the origin or door brush disconnected from the other). Each door should have TWO brushes - the origin and the door itself.

just a thought...

Not a bad idea i guess, but I don't have any rotating doors in my map yet.
