Hi.

I am at the stage of doing a final compile for my map.
The map is a fairly large fully outdoors lots of terrain map.
The first part of the build took 76 secs.
The visdatasize is only 11728 therefore the viz part took 6 secs.
The third part I have set in the compiler,
Extra
Verbose
modelshadow

all ticked.

it went to about 75% in about 7 hours. After 77 hours it is only at 80%. and the way it is going, easily another 80+ hours before it is finished.

having read the documents, the extra light compile is primarily for avoiding harsh lighting conditions when moving from one area into another.
Given that my map is one large area that all part can be seen,
1: Is a extra light compile worth the effort?
2: Will the compile make that much difference in looks compared to a non extra light compile.
3: Having already done the non extra compile, the map does seem to look ok, will I see a huge improvement if I let the compile go the course.

Any advice would be useful.

I had the same problem. I was told that it was so ironic that after putting so much effort into my map i wanted to rush the last stage. I was also told that the lighting will look slightly better, but to be honest with you I don't feel that it's necessary. Spending two weeks compiling is not worth and I decided not to do it. My map looks fine and I"m very happy with it. Hope that helped.

Spike and Army I know the pain you are going through but to be hones t I like to do all the extras in my final compile. I can notice the difference on my maps when I do this.

Quite often the power of your computer will determine how long it takes. I have a AMD Dual core 4400 with 2 gig of ram under the hood and it took a good day to compile.

Hang in there or release with a fast compile. The choice is yours to make. My choice will be to stay with the extra time for mine.

Sometimes defragging your harddrive will help with the speed too. Dump all the trash in your temp files also before compiling.

If I'm doing a beta release, I compile with fast + verbose + modelshadow.

Get some playtesting and bug fixes. Then when you are ready to release the final 'final' do all the extra stuff.

Hope this helps

My 2 cents.
Well, I'm nowhere near that point. One thing bugs me more than any other about the majority of maps out there, really bad light. I wish I could remember map names. There's one foggy night map. For no apparent reason players become lit up like neon. Most annoying. Others have players standing in what should be bright sun, but looking like they are in deep shade. The contrast makes them as easy a target as the first example. If it takes me a week to compile a map with true light, I'll be most happy to tick off the days.

Well still no luck.
I have reformatted my drive, only installed windows and updates and video driver.
Tried a compile.
All fine upto 70% in about 24 hrs, then slows right down.
The memory suddenly gets all used up and the hard disk starts getting hammered.
I have Athlon XP 2500 with 1Gb of memory.
The compile log shows no errors at all, but I suspect there must be something incorrect in the map that will cause this problem but because no error shows up I will not be able to find it.
It all looks ok in fast mode.
If anyone with a faster puter who is willing to attempt a final compile who can spare a number of days computer unavaiblity, then pm me .
I would be grateful for any help as I am so near completion.

Ok, I will reanimate this Topic now...

My Problem:

after Vis-Data calculating (4 Days) the Lightcompiling stopped after some hours and I got the Error: Out of memory

Can anyone Help me Please and tell me what´s wrong?

My Settings are:

Compile BSP
Compile Vis
Compile Lightning

extra
verbose
ModelShadow

I had not enabled: Connecting Paths (Is this nesecary for Multplayer maps?)

Where is the Error?
