hi
I am new to mapping in COD2
Ive made a singleplayer map .
Now i am trying to make a *.iwd file but i have problems
because i need a *.d3dbsp file.


I think it is a compiled map.
Because of that i tryed to compile my map and opened the
COD2 compiling tool.
I set a mark on:
-----------------------------
Compile BSP
Compile Lighting
Connect Paths
Run map When Done

Lighting Options:

extra
verbose
ModelShadow
------------------------------
Then i (pushed, clicked) the Compile button.

A little black window came out.

I waited a second end then it exit.
I read in tutorials that in the (For example on my computer:
C:\Programme\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\maps\mp) folder must be a compiled map.
But there is nothing!!??

Can anybody help me please???

the d3dbsp file is the playable game file that you get from compiling the .map file. There is a tutorial on how to use the compiler on the COD2 tutorials section.


Once you have the d3dbsp, you can place it and the other necassary files (.arena, .gsc etc) into a .IWD file (aka a zip file with the "zip" changed to "IWD").

Couple of points:

What is your mapname (of the .map file). If it begins with mp_ then it will go into the maps/mp folder you are talking about. If the map does not have this prefix it will be in the
"C:\Programme\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\maps" folder instead.

Another issue might be with your compile - try downloading this:

This will stop the black window closing so you can see any errors.

i ll try it out

ok ive just installed it and i tryed to compile.
my maps name is mp_starwars.map
i compiled.
But now i looked to the (C:\Programme\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\maps\mp) folder and there is the mp_starwars.map file.
is this the compiled map???

and there were no errors, it still tooks 1 second.
the little black window says something like (i translate from german because my computer is german and it is maybe not perfect english ):

you error occurs before the "Could not load file "C:\Programme\Activision\Call of Duty 2\main\maps\mp\mp_starwars.d3dbsp" part. Before you close your black window, copy the text out of it by right clicking in it and pressing select all and then (i believe) the Enter button on your keyboard to copy the text. Put that text into a post here so we can see what the problem is.


The average compile for a map can take from 10 minutes to 60 hours.
