It seems that MODSonline.com is having issues sending email to hotmail (msn) and yahoo email users. On Feb 9th, our newsletter was rejected by hotmail. Today, I see that all of our yahoo subscribers are having their email delayed.

If I were to guess, I think that these two domains are blocking email that comes in bulk. Because we have more than one subscriber from each of these domains, we have a bulk of email. When I test a single email to hotmail, it goes right through.

I am sorry for the trouble and I am looking into a solution. That is if this turns out to be an actual problem. I am assuming that it is a problem at this time.

If you want our newsletter and have an email address that leads somewhere else, I recommend subscribing with that address for now. Subscriptions are accepted in the bottom left column of our website.

i think a parital problem may be that some subscribers to the site are not paying attention to their own settings for their account, and subscribing to threads and topics by default.

they then report the mail as spam, and if enough of these reports are received, then all mail will be flagged as spam from a domain.

Quite possible. That was my first thought.

Second thought that came to me later today was that Hotmail and Yahoo are now doing something new to prevent spam. If they receive a bunch of email at the same time from the same source, it's all blocked. This means that when I send out a newsletter to 247 Hotmail subscribers, they block it. However, my tests indicate that if I send out one email, it goes through.

[sad]

There you go puttin' words in my mouth again. That would be too easy. It's more like I would create a script that would send the newsletters out one at a time spaced a few minutes apart. [idea]

See Stryder, you have free labour. Maybe foyleman has a post-it note on his screen saying "Got a problem? Make a script!".

AOL says this:
Quote:
* 554 HVU:B1
http://postmaster.info.aol.com/errors/554hvub1.html

EXPLANATION:

There is at least one URL in your email that is generating substantial complaints from AOL members.

SOLUTION:

If you own all the domains linked to in your e-mail, please contact us to discuss more effective management of your complaint levels. You can start by setting up a free complaint loop through this form. This will allow you to receive AOL member complaints against your domain.

If you do not own the domain, please have the owner of that domain contact us.
There are all sorts of links in the news. What can I do about that? Damn it!!!
